In 2013, construction was completed on a new manufacturing plant for an international corporation with a large manufacturing campus near Salt Lake City, specializing in the development of cutting edge carbon fiber composite products for numerous industries.

The new facility greatly increases the company’s manufacturing capacity. The building includes a 98,000 square foot manufacturing shell, with two 7,500 square foot floors of office space, including a 1,000 square foot laboratory. The building shell is designed to accommodate future growth and operational expansion. The initial construction included the build-out of 20,000 square feet of manufacturing clean rooms, and a 4,300 square foot, 50-foot tall material freezer, which employs a high-speed automatic storage and retrieval system to optimize storage density, inventory control, and transfer times in and out of the freezer. Future phases include the addition of a second freezer, and 20,000 more square feet of manufacturing clean rooms within the shell space, some of which has already been finished.

With this building occupying a location of prominence on the company’s campus, Axis placed the office portion of the building in the northeast quadrant to take advantage of its high visibility along a busy highway, and excellent views across the valley to the mountains of the Wasatch Front. The orientation of the office block allows the space to take advantage of diffuse northern daylight and avoid excessive heat gain from direct sunlight, for a comfortable and productive work space.
