VA Nursing Home

Description:

Out of nine proposing firms, Axis Architects was selected as one of the three finalists to provide a schematic design package for the Veterans Affairs Nursing Home slated for Ogden, Utah. In a design/build effort, Axis teamed with DWA Construction and hired SmithGroup as a nursing home consultant. The design embraced the new “culture change” movement in the health care industry. By doing so, we created smaller communities which result in a sense of camaraderie and belonging for the residents. We also employed several tactics which addressed the increased need for way-finding for the elderly population. The landscaping plan addressed the specific needs for the residents, such as wandering paths and different gardens for sensory, memory and rehabilitation. The images shown here are digital renderings prepared
for the final presentation.
