VA Nursing Competition
Out of nine proposing firms, Axis Architects, was selected as one of the three finalists to provide a schematic design package for the Veterans Affairs Nursing Home slated for Ogden, Utah. In a design/build effort, Axis teamed with DWA Construction and hired SmithGroup as a nursing home consultant. The design embraced the new culture change movement in the health care industry. By doing so, we created smaller communities which result in a sense of comraderie and belonging for the residents. We also employed several tactics which addressed
the increased need for way-finding for the elderly population. The landscaping plan addressed the specific needs for the residents, such as wandering paths and different gardens for sensory, memory and rehabilitation.
