The hills of Park City provide a beautiful, yet challenging site for this contemporary residence. The sloped site and the restrictive land use requirements created a set of unique design criteria for this dwelling. These challenges were combined with the client’s aspirations to spur innovative solutions.  Axis Architects was able to maximize the efficiency and impact of the modest floor plate by creating a flow through the house that opens up on either end. There are large expanses of glass and balconies that smoothly transition from interior to exterior; capitalizing on views to the nearby mountains and ski slopes, while controlling views from the neighbors nearby. The roof plane cuts through the house to create a variety of smaller, livable volumes within.  Materials were carefully chosen to accentuate the gestural form. The burnt cedar cladding helps create a sense of verticality on the site, while the natural red cedar flows horizontally through the house, extending outwards to the landscape. The design of the site is carefully integrated with the building, reinforcing the movement and views within.
