Carbon Fiber Manufacturing Plant

Description:

The design of this manufacturing expansion began by reinterpreting the floor plan to maximize efficiency and functionality. All major program elements are present, including lab spaces, locker rooms,
and offices. For the exterior of the building, a large extruded volume is used to encapsulate the program elements and bound the building. This design allows corner offices with floor to ceiling windows while also responding to the relocated entrance. The design uses low-cost, durable materials already specified to be used by the owner, including a ribbed metal panel skin. This front area of the facility is the “face” of
the corporation facing the future Mountain View Corridor, and as such, it is progressive and iconic in its design.
