Regional Council T.I.
Salt Lake City, Utah
When the Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC), Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Salt Lake City area, acted on a decades-long goal to locate its headquarters near the transportation and transit hub of Capitol City, they turned to Axis Architects to design a commercial interior suffused with light and characterized by accommodations and views focused on rail, road, and active transportation. The space includes offices, conference rooms of multiple sizes, a large board room, and a distinctive lobby that can open up to become part of the board room. Exposed structure, full-height glass walls, glazed garage door operable partitions, and suspended acoustical panels promote transparency, light transmission, and acoustical privacy within the open office areas. A custom-fabricated, laser-cut feature wall behind the receptionist in the lobby uses elements of community streetscapes, historic city development patterns, and WFRC’s Wasatch-Mountain inspired logo to begin building the narrative of the important role and mission of WFRC from the moment a visitor enters the lobby..
