H House Info
H HouseSalt Lake City, Utah Client: private4,100 SF Residential$850,000Design: Pierre O. Langue AIACompleted: 2008 The H House is a modern residence located high on Salt Lake City's East Bench on Devonshire. The living spaces of the house are oriented towards the expansive views of the valley and the Great Salt Lake. One of the challenges of this project was to allow for the views to the west, while protecting the house from the afternoon sun. A large overhanging shading device provides shade and gives a distinctive character to the house. The volumes of the house follow the slope of the terrain and reinforce the integration of the house into its environment.

Art BoxesSalt Lake City, UtahClient: Urban Renaissance Group11,500 SF$1,300,000Estimated Completion 2009A developer approached Axis Architects with a uniquely challenging site - a long narrow strip of land with road access at each end. After several brainstorming sessions with the client, we agreed that the best use for the property would be to develop nine two-story leasable art lofts. Very contemporary in design, they are detailed to be a low-cost upfront investment, but one that will be durable through tenant use. The lower level of each unit has service access through glass overhead doors, allowing for work spaces with a large amount of daylight. The upper level is designed as a flexible show case for the artwork produced below.
